See your landed cost per unit and delivery date—before you ship.
This preview converts your FOB India price into CIF / DAP / DDP totals, shows the per-unit landed cost, and estimates door-to-door transit time for sea, air, or express. It highlights cost drivers, duty/VAT impact, and where to save (mode, packing, lane, or paperwork).
What you get
- Landed-cost bands for CIF, DAP, DDP (min–max) + per-unit cost.
- Line-item breakdown: freight, insurance, origin/destination terminal charges, brokerage/clearance, duties & taxes, last-mile, surcharges (BAF/GRI/PSS), storage risk buffer.
- Door-to-door ETA with best/base/risk ranges, including port dwell and customs time.
- Mode & lane suggestions: Sea LCL vs FCL, Air vs Express, direct vs trans-shipment.
- Packing optimisation: pallet vs floor-load, carton dims (air volumetric), stackability.
- Compliance checklist (IOR/EORI, bonds, ISPM-15, FDA/LFGB/REACH, country labels).
- Downloadable summary (PDF/Excel) + 1-click handoff to Lead-Time Guide & Book Forwarder/QC.
Inputs we need (2–4 minutes)
Shipment: Incoterm start (FOB port & cut-off), destination city/ZIP, mode(s) to compare, cartons (L×W×H cm, gross/net kg), total CBM & kg, stackable/tilt/fragile, pallets (yes/no).
Commodity: HS code (6–10 digits), material, declared value, use-case (food contact, children, batteries, magnets, liquids).
Docs: Commercial invoice, packing list, labels/marks, tests/certificates (if any), IOR/EORI or request DDP (we arrange IOR via partner where permitted).
How we calculate
Cost ladders by Incoterm
From FOB → CIF
FOB + Ocean/Air freight + Cargo insurance (typically 0.25–0.6% of CIP value, subject to min).
CIF/FOB → DAP
- Destination terminal/CFS charges + security & doc fees + customs brokerage/entry + port/airport handling + last-mile to door.
DAP → DDP
- Import duties & taxes (basic duty + adders, then VAT/GST on the taxable base) + disbursement/advancement fees.
Duty & tax model (DDP)
- Duty = CIF × duty rate (by HS code; may include anti-dumping/safeguard where applicable).
- Import taxes = (CIF + Duty + sometimes local fees) × VAT/GST rate (country-specific).
- Broker/advancement: % or fixed fee on duties/taxes advanced.
Freight math
- Sea LCL: charge at revenue ton (W/M) → max(1 CBM, 1,000 kg); origin/destination CFS & minimums apply.
- Sea FCL: choose 20’ (≈28–33 CBM), 40’ (≈58–67 CBM), HC (≈68–76 CBM); add THC, DO, ENS/AMS where required.
- Air: chargeable weight = max(actual kg, volumetric kg); volumetric = (L×W×H cm)/6000 (or /5000 by carrier).
- Express: zone-based; DDP possible for many consumer goods under de-minimis thresholds (country-specific).
Quick ETA reference (port-to-port, then add 3–7 days total for port/clearance/delivery)
- India → US East Coast (NY/NJ): 26–35 days · West Coast (LA/LB): 21–28 days
- India → EU North (Rotterdam/Hamburg): 18–28 days · UK (Felixstowe/London): 19–26 days
- India → Middle East (Jebel Ali): 8–14 days · SE Asia (Singapore): 6–10 days
- Air (major hubs): 3–6 days airport-to-airport + 2–4 days total origin/destination handling
Seasonality adders (guidance): Peak export (Sep–Nov) +4–8 days; monsoon humidity can slow inspections/handling +1–3 days; customs exams +1–5 days.
LCL vs FCL & Air breakpoints (rules of thumb)
- Consider FCL from 12–15 CBM upward (lane-dependent)—often cheaper and faster than LCL beyond this.
- If unit value is high or you need speed/quality certainty, compare Air when chargeable ≤ 300–500 kg or margin is time-sensitive.
- For mixed cartons with odd sizes, optimise to reduce air volumetric and LCL minimums.
Compliance & paperwork (typical)
- Importer of Record: required for DDP. (US: Customs bond; EU/UK: EORI; CA: BN; AU: ABN.)
- Labelling: country-of-origin, fibre content/care (textiles), electrical ratings, warnings (children’s items).
- Wood packaging: ISPM-15 for pallets/crates.
- Regulatory flags: food contact (LFGB/FDA), chemicals (REACH/Prop-65), batteries (IATA, UN38.3), cosmetics (SDS), toys (CPSIA/EN71).
Worked examples (illustrative only)
A) Sea LCL — Moradabad (FOB Nhava Sheva) → New York, 3.2 CBM / 820 kg, HS 7418 (tableware), FOB value $6,500
Freight & handling
- Ocean LCL (W/M): $75/CBM ⇒ $240
- Origin CFS & docs (FOB basis covers port handover): $0 (already FOB)
- Destination CFS/THC, doc/DO, AMS/ISF share: $380
- Brokerage & entry (incl. bond share): $150
- Truck delivery NY/NJ metro: $320
- Insurance (0.35% of CIP): $25
Duties & taxes (illustrative rates)
- Basic duty 3.1% on CIF ($6,500 + $240 + $25) ≈ $211
- Merchandise Processing Fee/Harbor fees (US): $45
- Sales tax at destination (varies; not included for B2B in many states when resale certificate applies).
DDP uplift from FOB: ≈ $1,371 → $1.67/pc if 820 pcs.
ETA door: Sailing 28d + handling/clearance 4–6d ⇒ 32–35 days from vessel departure.
B) Air freight — Karur (FOB Chennai) → Frankfurt, 180 kg actual, 1.20 CBM (volumetric 200 kg), HS 6304 (cushions), FOB $4,200
Chargeable weight: 200 kg
Air rate band: $4.10–$5.20/kg ⇒ $820–$1,040
Airport handling + broker + delivery 60 km: $240–$320
Insurance (0.35%): $15
Duty/VAT (illustrative DE): 6% duty on CIF; VAT 19% on (CIF + duty + local fees).
ETA door: 5–8 days from pick-up at FOB handover.
Cost drivers you can influence
- Packing density: fewer pallets, tighter cartons → lower CBM/W-M → cheaper LCL/air.
- Lane choice: direct calls reduce trans-ship risk/time; consider Mundra vs Nhava Sheva based on sailing frequency.
- Mode mix: split ship—air small launch qty + sea balance.
- Paperwork quality: accurate HS code, values, and labels avoid exams/delays.
- Delivery type: dock with forklift vs tail-lift residential changes last-mile fees.
Risk & buffer playbook
- Book space at PO (Sep–Nov) to avoid rolls/GRIs.
- Keep 2–3 free days at port to prevent demurrage/detention.
- Pre-advise broker with full docs 72h before ETA; enable continuous bond (US) for frequent shipments.
- For DDP, confirm IOR availability and product admissibility before sail/flight.
Best-practice workflow
- Feed FOB price & pack list from your Cost Estimator.
- Select mode(s) and destination → get CIF/DAP/DDP bands + per-unit landed cost.
- Review ETA ranges & seasonality adders.
- Apply optimisations (packing/mode) and re-run.
- Lock your choice → we book freight, file entries, and align with your DUPRO/PSI dates.
